Svend Waage
Svend Waage (b. 26.06.1969) is Cand. Philol. (Master of Art) from the University of Oslo in Musicology, with the Cand. Philol.- thesis about the Georgian folk song tradition. During his period at the University of Oslo Svend also studied history and economics. After moving to Georgia in 2001 he has been working for Wilhelmsen Ships Service in Georgia with sales, marketing, cargo forwarding and HR/QHSSE. Svend is now holding the position as Human Resource and Quality Manager.
In 2012 Svend established Cultural Travel – Georgia together with Tamar Lomidze, arranging cultural tours throughout Georgia for both foreign and Georgian guests. Svend has also performed different project works in Georgia like arranging poetry evenings/exhibitions and concerts, performing trainings and language courses for IDPs at the Norwegian Refugee Council in Tbilisi and acting the famous Norwegian writer Knut Hamsun in Olga Zghenti's film Caucasian Mysteries. In 2005 Svend founded Ensemble Giorgi performing the Georgian traditional three-part folk songs. Ensemble Giorgi, comprising of two Georgian and two Norwegian singers (inclusive Svend), are arranging concerts and tours both in Georgia and in Norway and have been touring with Concerts Norway.
In 2013 the president of Georgia awarded the medal of Civil Sacrifice to Svend Waage for his contributions to the Georgian folk song tradition.
